MAURICE
Maurice has a history of sexual offending. Within a week of having been released from a six year prison sentence for indecent assault, he sexually assaulted two more adult women. He received a further six year sentence.

Maurice was released, and then recalled to prison twice in respect of this second prison sentence. He eventually completed his post-release licence and moved from supervised Approved Premises to independent accommodation.

During this change-over period, he was allocated to the High Risk Outreach Team, which is managed by a local charity. The team provide support in the transition to independent living for high risk offenders, but also provide a valuable additional contact with the offender.

Initially Maurice appeared to be doing well, but he remained “high profile” with the local police. As a result, when a woman complained that a man had exposed himself to her, the Police quickly identified Maurice as the likely suspect and he was arrested. The victim confirmed that he was the man who had carried out the offence.

Maurice was sentenced to an Extended Sentence of Imprisonment for Public Protection – a total of sixteen months imprisonment and eight months on licence. This sentence represents, a combined total of two years, which is the maximum sentence for this offence.

Maurice was released after sixteen months, and he returned to the Approved Premises. His licence is now nearing its end and so he has been allocated a council flat and will again be referred to the High Risk Outreach Team. As a Registered Sex Offender, he will remain subject to close police monitoring when he moves into his new accommodation.
